MEEA Recognizes Long-time ComEd Exec Tim Melloch with its 2015 Chairman’s Award for Leadership in Promoting Energy Efficiency
CHICAGO – The Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (MEEA) recognized one of its former Board Chairmen Tim Melloch with the organization’s 2015 Chairman’s Award. Bestowed each year at the Midwest Energy Solutions Conference, the Chairman’s Award is given to an organization or individual exhibiting outstanding commitment to the advancement of MEEA initiatives and energy efficiency in the Midwest.
“MEEA is unique in the way it balances the diverse interests of its members and network, across the public and private sectors, to find the common ground to support energy efficiency,” said MEEA Board Chairman Jeanine Penticoff, director of energy efficiency and renewables at Alliant Energy in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. “Tim’s long-standing support and involvement with MEEA and promotion of energy efficiency was a key component of MEEA’s growth over the last six years. We are very proud to recognize Tim with this year’s Chairman’s Award.”
Since its founding in 2000, annual investment in energy efficiency has grown from $280 million to $1.8 billion in 2014 in the Midwest. MEEA now has more than 150 members and a budget of $5 million. MEEA is an expert resource across the region serving as the source on energy efficiency in the Midwest. According to Penticoff, Melloch played a leading role in that success.
Tim Melloch worked for ComEd since 1982. In 1990, he began using his experience as an engineer and customer account manager to help educate ComEd customers about energy efficiency. Tim also played the role of the ComEd Energy Doctor at special promotional programs and appearances, and in the media.
In 2008, ComEd launched what became one of the country’s largest and most cost effective energy efficiency portfolios. Since inception of the program, ComEd customers have reduced their energy consumption by approximately 8.5 million MWh and have saved more than $800 million on their electric bills. Thanks to Tim’s leadership the program has been so successful that the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency recognized ComEd for six consecutive years for its work in the energy efficiency field.
Most recently, Tim was responsible for overseeing approximately 50 professionals responsible for all aspects of delivering ComEd’s 2011 to 2014 energy efficiency plan as well as the development and implementation of its 2014 to 2017 energy efficiency portfolio.
Tim retired in August of 2014 after more than 32 years with ComEd. In addition to his leadership at MEEA, he served on the Board of Directors for the Consortium for Energy Efficiency (CEE).
