The Wisconsin K-12 Energy Education Program (KEEP) initiates and facilitates the development, dissemination, implementation, and evaluation of energy education programs within Wisconsin schools. The goal of the Program is to leverage teacher education to improve and increase energy literacy in Wisconsin's PK-12 schools as a means of contributing to statewide energy savings. KEEP's vision includes working with partners to advance healthy, sustainable learning environments and the strengthening of student competencies. KEEP's next generation model for advancing energy literacy in Wisconsin generates student competencies through school-based initiatives, a school to home component, and by connecting the student's learning to community resources and experiences. Since 1995, KEEP has educated thousands of teachers and administrators about energy through interdisciplinary, graduate-level courses offered throughout Wisconsin. KEEP is the result of a collaborative effort between the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point's Wisconsin Center for Environmental Education (WCEE) - a center of the College of Natural Resources and UW Extension - Cooperative Extension, and Wisconsin utilities. The WCEE is a nonprofit organization, located in the College of Natural Resources at UW-Stevens Point, which works to improve environmental education throughout Wisconsin.
