Electrical devices that are “plugged in” account for nearly 20% of a typical office building’s energy bill. The Xcel Energy Computer Efficiency program addresses the issue of increasing plug load by directly incenting computer manufacturers to design, manufacture and sell more efficient computers. By working with the major computer manufacturers, the program has netted total energy savings surpassing 32,500,000 kWh’s since the program’s inception in 2007.
